Abby Kay and Bettina Kapps are second-year Teacher Candidates at Wilfrid Laurier University (Brantford). With support from GoodMinds.com, a First Nations-owned educational resource provider, they co-created the Indigenous Resources section of this website.
After completing their first year of practicum placements and engaging in discourse with other Teacher Candidates, it became evident that there’s often a gap between the expectations of Indigenous education and what is currently being implemented in the classroom. When the responsibility falls on Teacher Candidates, many feel unsure of where to begin or what resources to trust. Because of this, Abby and Bettina decided to build this section to help bridge that gap.
As non-Indigenous educators, Abby and Bettina are committed to approaching this work with respect, care, and dedication to foster meaningful learning about Indigenous histories, cultures, and perspectives. This project is part of their ongoing journey toward reconciliation and inclusive education.
They hope you continue to learn alongside them.
