Spark :
This resource is provided by Pearson and is an online interactive reading website that students create an account on that the educator has full access to. The site offers books in both English and French and has the ability to read the story to the students. Students are able to create their own library with the books that they wish to read and it keeps track of how many books they read. Students are able to access this resource on a home computer which allows for home reading to be done much more effectively and allows for students to have access to books, both French and English. Books are offered in both fiction and non-fiction so students may read whatever interests them. The educator has full control of what level of books students are reading and may open new levels for them as they are ready based off of guided reading levels, PM levels and running records. This resource provides students with Canadian content and has a wide range of indigenous content so students may explore as they please. Subscription required.
Games for Teaching Primary French by Daniele Bourdais and Sue Finnie :
This resource is highly useful and fun for both the educator and the students. This book gives a list of 20 different, low resources games to play with your students to activity engage them in the learning with out them realizing they're learning. The book is divided into 7 parts: Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing, Numbers, Grammar and playing with sounds, all of these parts have 20 different games with full instructions for educators. This resource can be used in core, extended and immersion. This resource is great for motivating students as they're just playing a game. You can make the game the focus of your lesson or as an activity that goes along with the subject you are focusing on at the moment. Available wherever you get books, link is to Amazon.
Lawless French - Art de la Traduction :
This resource is a French reading practice for students that provides side-by-side English translation. This resource give the French CELF level for all the resource it provides so that you can decide what's the best level for your students. The resource also provides you with the different expressions, vocabulary and grammar used in the reading practice. More reading practices like this available on the Lawless French website.
This resource lets students browse news stories in student friendly language. Educators can use this as a class or for students to has another way to read in French, whether at home on in the classroom. This resource does not update often, but the news stories that are available are high quality and will help students with their French comprehension. It has some free news stories but for full access a paid subscription is required.
This resource provides short stories divided by age group that educators could use for a read aloud, small group and individual reading. This resource can be added to a lesson to be used in different forms. However this resource does have a limited amount of stories.
This resource provides educators with an online phonics program for early learns. This resource provides students with games that they can work through as they improve their French phonics. When it finds that a student is doing well on a sound, it will move them forward and if a student if having difficulty, it will give them more practice with that sound before moving on. This resource is free to educators but schools have the ability to purchase a premium version that will give them access to extra features to help their students.
Boukili :
This resource was created by Idéllo (previously mentioned) and provides students with 120 levelled books sorted by reading levels. Students have the option to read the book or have it read to them by the website. Requires app to access.
Raz-kids :
This resource provides educators with a large collection of different levelled books with 27 levels available so that all students have access to books. The collection includes both fiction and non fiction texts for all reads. This resource also provides educators with access to comprehension quizzes, worksheets and the ability to see your class and what they have been reading and the online activities that have completed. Paid subscription required for access.
This resource is similar to spark reading in the fact that it is an online reading program with levelled texts. This resource can be used for modelling, group, guides and independent reading. This resource also allows for students to record themselves reading the text that is then submitted to the teacher to review and unlock the next level of the student is ready. Requires paid subscription. K - 4 (could go up to 6 depending on your students)
This resource provides levelled texts based off the DELF / CERF levels. It provides free texts for students to practice their French and each text comes with a number of comprehension questions. Each story also has the option to have it read to the student and can adjust the speed of the speaker. This resource could be used for a number of different aspects such as read aloud with comprehension question and other different ways. Provides a number of free texts, but full access requires paid membership.
